Power of a Prayer

Power of a Prayer

“I recall an incident that happened in childhood when mom and I went out for an evening stroll. Suddenly, there came a hole in the lane on which mom mistakenly stepped and twisted her ankle. It was sore due to which she couldn’t walk. Fortunately, our home was right around the corner, so I rushed and called dad. He took her to the orthopedic and left me at home with my grandparents. My grandmother tried making me sleep but I kept asking her about mom. She said not to worry and sleep peacefully as she will be fine. However, somewhere I was feeling a little guilty that because of me, she got hurt. I did notice the hole, and I thought even she did, so I did not speak out loud. I wanted to talk to mom for once but at that time cellphones were not popular so except for crying to myself, I was left with no other option. My grandmother had almost slept but keeping a hand on my head she kept on saying, “try to sleep kid; God will do everything alright.” That showed me the way. Immediately, I joined my hands and prayed for my mom’s well-being. I apologized for my mistake and kept requesting Lord to bring my mom home. After that, all I remember is the next morning, when I woke up, I saw her in the kitchen. I couldn’t believe my eyes! I wasn’t very good about expressing my emotions so instead of hugging her I just wished her good morning and rushed into the washroom where I cried happy tears and thanked God.”

Something I learnt that day was the power of genuine prayer. It brought me peace in the dead stillness of the night. It made me feel that someone was listening to me even when he wasn’t seen. It made my heart lighter and my faith heavier. To date, any situation or problem that comes in life that causes me to feel lost or disheartened, I recall that day and all it reminds me to do is pray. Agreeably, not all my prayers are answered right away but they are at the appropriate moment and until then I get the strength, patience, and faith to live with.

Prayer, in my opinion, is a heart-to-heart conversation with the almighty. He is undoubtedly aware of our predicament, but the idea is to communicate with him; to open our hearts and share our thoughts with him. There is a possibility that we might cry, get furious, be upset but at the end of it all, we will feel relieved because we would have surrendered all to God. There comes a conviction that we are not alone in whatever it is that we are encountering; there is an unseen life force that is continually holding our hand and has our back regardless.

Besides, the power of prayer is only nurtured when it is extended for everyone. Every being out there is going through some or the other challenges in their lives. What more we can ask for if our prayers can heal their situation? Praying for others gives us serenity and makes our lives more fulfilling. It is indeed a true blessing to be able to pray.

PS: I fervently hope that the whole existence claims the power of a true prayer once in their entire lifetime.

And there lies an immense power

That can, indeed, turn the sands”
